Early 80’s chart topper and somewhat under-rated pop icon Adam Ant is planning a comeback tour.

Ant, whose real name has always been Stuart Goddard, has had a fairly lack lustre beginning to this century which scraped the bottom of the barrel when he was was arrested for waving an imitation pistol at pub goers in 2002.

Apparently he has a new girlfriend known as Clare (not the Chk, Chk…Boom girl) who has helped him turn his life around to the point that he is keen to thank his fans for their support with a run of shows.

The Ant Music creator also who spent a year in psychiatric care after being committed in 2003 – has put his health problems behind him and lost weight.

He said: ‘I’ve been hitting the gym and walking a lot. I feel great, better than I have in years. Clare has also been making sure I eat only the finest, healthy food.’

An Ant insider (now there is a concept) is quoted as saying ‘He has been through so much but gradually he’s been getting back on his feet, thanks to the support he’s been given in his personal life and by his devoted army of fans. Nothing’s been set in stone in terms of dates but there are meetings going on at present to plan shows.

‘It’s undeniable he’s looking amazing at the moment if you think about where he was only as few years ago.’

Which was apparently nothing like how he looked in the accompanying picture.

Ant shot to fame with his group Adam and the Ants in 1980.

Following a series of hits, the group disbanded in 1982 and Adam went on to enjoy a successful solo career before turning to acting in 1985. He later failed in several bids to relaunch his music career.

A television special entitled The Madness of Prince Charming was aired in the UK in 2003 documenting Goddards’s career and his struggle with mental illness (he was diagnosed as suffering with bipolar disorder).

In 2004 and 2005, six remastered compact discs were released. The CDs include previously unreleased demos and material from the vault.

In September 2006, Goddard published his autobiography, Stand & Deliver. Marking the release of the book Adam Ant did a UK book signing tour. After the success of the first edition the paperback edition was published it contains a new epilogue which covers the year following the initial hardcover release.

Goddard performed a live reading from his autobiography and played some of his songs at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London on 24 September 2007. It was his first live performance in 11 years. The special performance is available on CD as an on-line only release.

In early October 2008 Goddard was awarded the Q Music Icon Award. Receiving the award from The Sugababes, he said how flattering it was to get an award that last year had gone to Paul McCartney.
