The Black Angels To Tour

Austin’s The Black Angels are heading to Australia for the first time this June and July.

The band will be bringing their hazy vocals and wall of guitars to the country in support of their third album ‘Phosphene Dream’, which has seen the band continue their tradition of psychedelic dreamy indie rock.

The sultry neo-psychedelic sound of the Black Angels came together in spring 2004. Hailing from Austin, TX, Stephanie Bailey (drums), Christian Bland (guitar), Alex Maas (vocals), Jennifer Raines (organ), and Nathan Ryan (bass) took their name from a Velvet Underground classic, “The Black Angel’s Death Song.” The band’s self-titled debut EP was released in late 2005.

In 2005, the Black Angels were featured on a dual-disc compilation album of psychedelic music called Psychedelica Vol.1 from Northern Star Records. This, along with the growing popularity of their MySpace page, gave the band a big jump in popularity in the underground scene.

Since then the Black Angles have toured with the likes of The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, Roky Erickson, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Queens of the Stone Age, The Raveonettes and Wolfmother.

The band created their own festival  called Austin Psych Fest , which has now been running for three years. Bands topping the 43-band bill included The Raveonettes, Pink Mountaintops, The Warlocks, The Gaslamp Killer, Warpaint, Night Beats and vintage psych legends Silver Apples.

Soundwave Is Big and Heavy, Surprised?

The full line-up for the 2011 Soundwave festival has been released and it’s a pretty heavy duty list.

Iron Maiden will headline joined by Slayer, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins, The Gaslight Anthem, Slash, 30 Seconds to Mars (Full list below)

As usual this website hasn’t heard of many of the more hardcore acts but there are plenty that grab our attention.

With their new album The Final Frontier due out next week, Iron Maiden simply refuse to turn off the creative taps and allow age to take its toll. Iron Maiden will be bringing their full stage show to Australia for the Soundwave festivals and will even be taking in a couple of side shows on the east coast. Having just come off tour in North America where they played to more than 400,000 fans over 25 dates, Iron Maiden should be in fighting form by the time they get here.

Queens of the Stone Age, Primus, Slash, Social Distortion, Rob Zombie, Gang of Four, Pennywise, Monster Magnet and Sevendust are all veteran acts that are still holding their own with the young guns.

The Gaslight Anthem
are  a sensational newer band with a couple of outstanding albums to their credit. I’ll be looking for them to do a sideshow.
