A few months ago his website reported that Faith No More had reformed and were playing shows in America – we also speculated that Australia was a likely destination for the reunion funk metallers.
Well now that has come to fruition with the news that Faith No More has been announced as headline act for Soundwave 2010. Soundwave is of course the alternative rock festival that last year was headlined by Nine Inch Nails.
It had been eleven years since FNM had played together when they made their return on stage at the Download Festival in Donnington, England in June.
Faith No More were regular visitors to Australia which was one of the first countries to embrace them, as was singer Mike Patton under various band names after the break up of Faith No More.
Soundwave 2010 will also feature Jane’s Addiction, who had to cancel their Australian tour recently due to illness.
The rest of the Soundwave bill sounds a bit obscure for readers of this site one would suspect (Eagles of Death Metal are a notable exception), but it will be interesting to see whether Faith No More and Jane’s Addiction do any headline sideshows.
The full initial lineup for Soundwave also includes My Chemical Romance, AFI, Paramore, Him, Alexisonfire, Taking Back Sunday, Trivium, Sunny Day Real Estate, Eagles of Death Metal, The Get Up Kids, Reel Big Fish, Meshuggah, All Time Low, A Day To Remember, It Dies Today, Escape The Fate, Clutch, Anti Flag, Isis, Gallows, A Wilhelm Scream, Theweakerthans, Emarosa, Anvil, The Devil Wears Prada, Comeback Kid, The Almost, Dance Gavin Dance, Four Year Strong, You Me At Six, White Chapel, The Aquabats, Rolo Tomassi, Baroness, RX Bandits, Maximum The Hormone, The Creepshow.
Festival Dates
February 20, Brisbane, RNA Showground?
February 21, Sydney, Eastern Creek Raceway?
February 26, Melbourne, Showgrounds?
February 27, Adelaide, Bonython Park?
March 1, Perth, Steel Blue Oval
Faith No More Care Enough To Reform

One of the great alternative rock bands of the 80’s and 90’s Faith No More have decided to reform, initially for a European tour.
The line-up that are doing the reunion thing is Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton.
It has been a decade since the band played together although frontman Mike Patton has continued to play in various incarnations and has visited Australia regularly.
In retrospect Faith No More remain difficult to define. From the industrial funk of We Care A Lot to the tongue in cheek cocktail groove of Easy to the self describing Epic they were unpredictable, usually interesting and sometimes confounding.
They seem to acknowledge this themselves with this statement issued.
“Faith No More has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat, its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile. Throughout our 17years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe”.
“Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we’ve experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together”.
“What’s changed is that this year, for the first time, we’ve all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we’ve discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right”.
“Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we’ve decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff….
BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!”
“We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
Who know where this will end or what it will bring up…only the future knows. But we are about to find out!”
At this stage no statements have been made about an Australian tour but you would think it wwould be a chance as this was one of the countries that really embraced the band.
