Richard Clapton, Australia’s most prolific and iconic singer-songwriter, returns to Sydney’s State Theatre for his 4th annual concert to play his 1982 classic album, The Great Escape, in its entirety with a generous helping of his classic hits along the way.

Richard’s annual State Theatre escapades are now in their 4th year with each one a bigger, and better, celebration than the last. They first started in 2008 when Richard held a one off concert to celebrate 35 years in the music industry and which turned into two sold out shows featuring some of Richard’s best mates including Jon Farris.  In 2009, Clapton showcased his pivotal 1977 album Goodbye Tiger with 2 sold-out shows which included his old friend, Ian Moss, and in 2010 fans were asked to help put their ultimate set list together for his “Acoustic v. Electric” show, this time featuring Diesel. The pairing of this iconic venue and iconic performer has proven to produce some truly magical evenings.

Richard Clapton, started his musical career in 1967 but it wasn’t until 1975 that he had his first big hit, Girls on the Avenue, which was originally earmarked as a “B” side.  “Girls” went on to reach No. 2 on the national charts and put Clapton firmly on the musical map.

Songs like I Am An Island, The Best Years of Our Lives, Capricorn Dancer, Girls on the Avenue, Glory Road, Goodbye Tiger, Trust Somebody, Get Back to the Shelter, Down in the Lucky Country and many, many more, are staples on radio, in music players and in the hearts of a generation all around the country.

Richard Clapton’s music is a bona fide soundtrack to a generation and to see and hear him live is one of the most enjoyable trips down memory lane any music fan can have.

And with a brand new album in the works, who knows, there may even be a couple of new songs to pique the interest!

State Theatre on Saturday, 20 August, 2011.

Tickets on sale now.
