Classic Rock is big business, particularly in the US and every summer a number of bands from the 70’s and 80’s head out on the road pumping out the old hits for their aging fans. Sometimes to ensure a big enough turnout to make it worthwhile they team up on double or even triple bills.
And as uncool as that sounds there some shows amongst that would be secret indulgences and guilty pleasures.
Take this example : Three classic rock heavies – Foreigner, Kansas, and Styx have teamed up for something they are calling the United We Rock tour. Bad name, big tour.
Now admit it – you wouldn’t mind hearing the Kansas classic Carry On You Wayward Son or Foreigner’s Hot Blooded one more time. Would you?
Keep in mind that Foreigner will be without lead singer Lou Gramm who these days is more likely to be performing Christian Rock than Classic Rock.
A press release from the tour quotes Styx guitarist James “JY” Young, “These three bands represent the more rocking side of the classic rock genre. With the countless great rock songs each band will be performing, this is going to be a guitars-a-blazin’ good time had by all.”
Alrighty then.
British legends Jethro Tull are said to be planning a new album in addition to a summer U.S. tour.
Jethro Tull is of course remembered for iconic hits such as Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Locomotive Breath, and Living In The Past. I remember Ian Anderson as one of the most intelligent artists I’ve ever interviewed.
Regarding the new album Anderson says, “I have sent material over to America where the band are working on it. That’s kind of how it works these days but they seem to like what I am doing.”
