Lloyd Cole is busy recording his new album, which has been funded by fans pre-ordering it via his website. I’m looking forward to hearing the two lines of lyrics that I paid for! If you want to take as share in this art meets commerce arrangement you still can, so visit the website.

In the meantime Cole is releasing a new ‘album’. Its actually his new acoustic trio – The Small Ensemble – in the studio for a day, recorded live, no overdubs. He describes it as “Very old school. Twelve songs for $12”.

No doubt it will be well worth a listen.

I received my copy of the Lloyd Cole Small Ensemble White Label Live cd last week.
The guitar, banjo and mandolin combination are truly lovely with Lloyd’s singing and lyrics. I am not a writer; no words I could string together could express well enough the elegance of this recording. Don’t be fooled by the bare minimum cd packaging, this is not a second rate offering and is essential in any Lloyd Cole collection.

Thanks again for your coverage of Lloyd Cole News Andrew. I too bought the New Ensemble White label limited release. It is brilliant, an acoustic reworking of past hits and new songs. If it is an indicator to the quality of the new album, Lloyd and his skilled musicians are in a very good place. To hear these tracks with new instrumentation is a gift.
