It’s kind of strange to think that the writer of one of the most iconic Australian songs is in fact as Scotsman who has lived in California for the last twenty years. But its true and we just have to deal with that. The song of course is Down Under and its writer is Colin Hay. And while that song has been the subject of some controversy lately it’s not the most interesting thing about Colin... Read the full story

Doug Fieger, the lead singer and guitarist from The Knack died last weekend after a battle with cancer. He was 57. He dies at his home in Woodland Hills , California. The Knack will of course be remembered best for one song – the remarkable My Sharona, a perfect and perfectly timed slice of power pop that captured the hearts and minds of a generation. The Knack were never able to match the success... Read the full story

AC/DC – Etihad Stadium

Amongst the sights and sounds I saw and heard at the AC/DC concert on Monday night were 1/ a full size blow-up doll being passed around the crowd in the way that a beachball is usually passed around a crowd. 2/ Two blokes wanting to punch on but being stopped by a 50+ year old, 5 foot tall, round woman wearing flashing red devil horns and giving them a mouthful. 3/ A sixty year old bloke off his head... Read the full story

Saul Hudson probably never planned on being in one of the biggest rock bands of their time. But as Slash that’s exactly what he did with Guns N’ Roses. I reckon all Slash ever really wanted to do was be a guitar player and since G N’R that what he’s been trying to do. He’ll pop up as a guest player on any number of recordings or as a “surprise” guest at a live show. He’s formed a number... Read the full story

Paul Weller releases his tenth studio solo album Wake Up the Nation in the United States on May 4th via long-time label Yep Roc Records. An Australian release shouldn’t be too far behind. Changefulness has always been a hallmark of Wellers musical evolution and by all reports Wake Up The Nation maintains that track record. After the success of 22 Dreams (his third solo number one in the UK), Wake... Read the full story

Here’s one for the hardcore fans. In 1975 Lou Reed released an album called Metal Machine Music – it was a double album that consisted for four LP length sides of “noise”. Well now in 2010 Lou Reed is presenting Metal Machine Music in concert. ‘A... Read the full story

Graham Parker’s New Album Coming

The resilient and still vital Graham Parker has a new album listed for release on Amazon with  a March release date published, although his official site does not mention it as yet. But I like the sound of the description he has apparently provided to Amazon: “… I went off to write treatments to my own imaginary TV shows which I would grace with the correct theme tunes, not ones chosen by... Read the full story

Boston, Mass. – The Del Fuegos

Back in 1985 Dan Zanes was the leader of this gritty little rockin’ four piece from Boston who had gained a name in indie garage rock circles that had resulted in them being signed to the highly regarded Slash label. This was the second album for the Del Fuegos. They obviously had a bit going for them even if it wasn’t ultimately achieved through this band. The bands Wikipedia entry offers a bit... Read the full story
