Marianne Faithfull Returns

The iconic singer Marianne Faithfull returns for a series of special performances this January.

The shows, with her full touring band, will showcase her critically acclaimed new album Easy Come, Easy Go (Shock Records), as well as drawing from the wealth of material from her expansive career.

In concert Marianne Faithfull creates intimacy with her unique quality as one of the greatest song interpreters, transforming lyrics into compelling personal moments that captivate the audience.

The Los Angeles Times said of her Royce Hall show last month: “she is an adventurous interpreter of rock, jazz and wounded cabaret, delivered in a raw, whiskey-nicotine wail. It’s a remarkably elegant and versatile instrument…”

Marianne and her band head to Brisbane’s Tivoli on January 30 and Melbourne’s Forum Theatre on February 5. Both shows will be fully reserved seating.

Marianne Faithfull’s vast career spans over 22 albums and five decades, as well as a string of film and stage acting credits. From pop icon of the swinging ‘60s London circa As Tears Go By and Sister Morphine, co-written with Mick Jagger, to her breakthrough classic album Broken English in 1979.

The UK’s Telegraph described Marianne’s live performance of Sister Morphine at the Royal Festival Hall (July 2009) as: “dark, dazzling, a glimpse into the abyss.”

Easy Come, Easy Go – a hauntingly beautiful, timeless collection of personally selected, popular songs reinterpreted in Marianne’s own unique style – is her third album with producer Hal Willner. Their previous collaborations resulted the highly acclaimed Strange Weather (1987) and Blazing Away (1990).

Tracks include Billie Holiday’s Solitude, Morrissey’s Dear God Please Help Me, Dolly Parton’s Down from Dover, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Salvation and the title track Easy Come, Easy Go Blues by Bessie Smith.

The album also boasts an array of guest vocalists, amongst them: Keith Richards, Jarvis Cocker, Rufus Wainwright, Cat Power and Nick Cave.

In August Marianne Faithfull was awarded the Q icon award at the Q Magazine Awards 2009. Accepting the award from Jarvis Cocker, it was the first UK recognition Marianne has received through her long career.
